Julian August : Aveda Concept Salon
www.julianaugust.comThe Julian August Salon wanted to stand out from its competition while maintaining a connection to current customers. The task of making them stand out was made easy by the fact that their dedication to service and training was only rivaled by the international clout of some of their staff.
Our approach here was our normal approach: honesty. Let them be seen. Aside from the usual displays of services, contact information and statements of philosophy, we designed two additional areas of exposure: life-style and news/promotions.
For news and promotions, the Julian August staff can keep their users informed of ongoing and upcoming offers, events, service additions, etc. They do this via the Content Management System (CMS) that we developed for them. This builds value into the new user's visit and keeps them coming back for more. It also keeps their current clients informed and involved. There is also quick potential for later development of online offers and associated purchase tracking.
For life-style, we set up a blog-like section where the Julian August team can post stories and updates both social and business. The site displays these posts with only the first few lines of the story. This minimizes scrolling and allows for a less cluttered user experience. Each post also accommodates a sizable gallery of photos, and each photo gallery is viewable in a slick overlay interface. The user can quickly and simply switch between reading the story and viewing the associated images.
There isn't much on this site that isn't controlled by CMS. The large splash images, the list of services, introductory text...all CMS controlled. The people at Julian August are just cool and really dig what they're doing, and they do it well. Our job was mostly a matter of giving them an online venue and then getting the heck outta the way.
